Quick start helps Neillsville past Spencer boys basketball

SPENCER – The Spencer boys basketball team played fairly even with second-place Neillsville for the final three quarters, but the problem was the first.

The Warriors outscored Spencer 22-15 in the first quarter and held on the rest of the way to post a 57-46 victory in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Thursday night at Spencer High School.

Matt Dux had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for Neillsville, which improves to 17-3 and 15-2 in the Cloverbelt East.

Spencer falls to 7-13 and 6-11 in the conference.

Bobby Pilz had 10 points and five rebounds, and Miles Weber and Jeremiah Cattanach each scored eight for Spencer.

Spencer hosts Marshfield Columbus Catholic in its final Cloverbelt East game of the season at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com with pregame starting at 7:15 p.m.
