STRATFORD – Auburndale improved to 9-2 in its last 11 games and used a big second quarter to beat Stratford 55-40 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Friday night at Stratford High School.
The Apaches improve to 13-6 and 9-3 in the Marawood South and knock Stratford down to 8-9 and 2-9 in the conference. Stratford has lost five straight Marawood South games.
After an 11-11 first quarter, Auburndale used a 17-9 run in the second to open up a lead. The Apaches outscored Stratford 27-20 in the second half to finish off the win.
Nicole Nikolay had 14 points and eight rebounds, making 6 of 6 from the free throw line, to lead Auburndale. Five other Apaches scored at least six points in the win.
Brooke Schultze had 13 points, Hannah Schmitt added 12 and Carrie Stroetz scored 11 for Stratford.
Both teams were an impressive 14 of 16 from the free throw line.
Auburndale is at Northland Lutheran and Stratford is at Pittsville in Marawood South action on Tuesday.
