Neillsville stays undefeated with rout of Spencer girls basketball

NEILLSVILLE – Spencer was held to just eight baskets and outscored 39-12 in the first half of a 65-18 loss to undefeated Neillsville 65-18 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Friday night at Neillsville High School.

Neillsville, ranked No. 1 in this week’s WisSports.net Division 3 state coaches poll, improves to 18-0 overall and 15-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Spencer drops to 10-8 and 7-8 in the conference.

Neillsville led 17-7 after one quarter and used a 22-5 second quarter and a 22-2 third to quarter to open up a huge 63-14 lead after three quarters.

Jenny Lindner had 20 points and Lindsey Opelt added 14 for the Warriors.

Tara Matter had four of the Rockets’ eight hoops, making 4 of 13 shots, to finish with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The rest of the Spencer team was just 4 of 24 from the field.

Spencer hosts Owen-Withee on Tuesday. That game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com with pregame starting at 7:15 p.m.
