AUBURNDALE – Stratford held Auburndale scoreless in overtime and upset the previously undefeated Apaches 46-40 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Monday night at Auburndale High School.
Stratford held normally efficient Auburndale to just 31 percent shooting (14 of 46) and the Apaches were only 4 of 18 from 3-point range in the loss.
Stratford improves to 14-6 and 7-6 in the Marawood South, while knocking Auburndale to 19-1 and 12-1 in the conference. Auburndale has already clinched its third straight Marawood South championship.
Despite making just 6 of 14 from the free throw line, the Tigers were able to hold on for the win.
Greg Belter scored 12 points and had seven rebounds, and Travis Urlaub and Jake Reif each added nine points for Stratford.
Ben Bolder scored 12 points to top Auburndale, but was just 6 of 19 shooting. Leading scorer Austin Hawkins was held to only eight shot attempts and 10 points.
Both teams wrap up the Marawood South schedule on Thursday. Stratford hosts Edgar and Auburndale is home against Wausau Newman Catholic in a pair of make-up games.
Stratford will play in a Marawood North-South crossover game on Friday, while Auburndale will be in the crossover first-place game Saturday after at Edgar. The teams’ opponents have yet to be determined.
