MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team wrapped up its regular-season schedule with an 84-57 rout of UW-Marinette on Wednesday at the Marauder Gym.
The Marauders finish 21-2 overall and 19-1 in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, winning the WCC West Division championship. The win is Marshfield’s 17th straight game.
UW-Marshfield/Wood County moves on to the state playoffs starting Wednesday, Feb. 20, after it received a first-round bye. The Marauders will host a game at 5:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
Addi Vold scored 23 points to lead the Marauders, who played without starter Corrine Meacham, who was out with an injury.
Brynn Salava added 17 points, Mckenzie Trunkel had 15 points, Heather Adrian had 12 points and 10 rebounds (6 of 6 free throws) and Kaitlynn Mefferd had 11 rebounds and seven assists in the victory for Marshfield.
“I have some injuries right now where I’m trying to focus on healing them … you don’t want that with playoffs starting,” Marauders coach Rhonda Keding said. “I give credit to our defense. We were solid holding Marinette to 16
points in the first half and keeping their post to four points (She was averaging 24.8 points a game over her previous four games). We need to
keep the strength of our defense going into the playoffs.”
