Auburndale boys basketball smashes Wausau Newman Catholic

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a dominating 56-32 win over Wausau Newman Catholic in the Marawood Conference South Division finale for both teams on Thursday at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 27-6 at halftime on their way to the 24-point win.

Austin Hawkins scored 16 points, making 8 of 11 shots from the field, Tom Sabel added 11 points and Ben Bolder had 10 for Auburndale.

The Apaches finish off their third straight Marawood South championship with a 13-1 record in the conference and improve to 20-1 overall. Auburndale plays Prentice in the Marawood South-North crossover first-place game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Edgar High School. Pittsville and Abbotsford play in the second-place game at 1 p.m.

Nate Prososki had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Newman (6-15, 4-10 Marawood South).
