MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls hockey team stands two wins away from its first-ever trip to the state tournament after ripping Lakeland 7-1 in a WIAA girls hockey regional final on Friday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Center.
The Tigers improve to 16-6-1 this season and move on to the sectional semifinals on Tuesday at Northland Pines (15-9-1). The two teams tied for the Great Northern Conference championship this season with 12-1-1 marks in league play.
The teams tied 2-2 on Nov. 26 at Marshfield and Pines beat the Tigers at home on Jan. 14, 4-1.
Lakeland’s season ends with a 5-14-1 record.
Paige Johnson scored four goals and Patty Jo Bloczynski had four assists for Marshfield.
Marshfield dominated play, allowing only 10 shots on goal, nine of which were saved by Alexis Staughan.
Bailey Jozwiak, Kessa Schreiner and Molly Schuster added goals for the Tigers.
