SHAWANO – Stratford junior Dondrick Tackes continued his impressive season by winning the 195-pound title at the WIAA Division 3 Bonduel Wrestling Sectional on Saturday at Shawano High School.
Tackes pinned Isaac Nowak of Coleman with 8 seconds left in the championship match to improve to 34-1 on the season and earn a spot in next week’s 2013 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison. The tournament will be held Feb. 21-23.
Stratford had three state qualifiers, Spencer had two and Auburndale one. The top three finishers in each weight class move on to Madison.
Tackes will be joined by two teammates at the state meet. Anthony Gliniecki took second at 106 pounds and Hunter Kauffman was second at 220. All three will compete in their first state tournament.
Gliniecki, a freshman, improves to 34-7 this season. He lost the championship match to Dylan Willemssen of Athens 7-5 in overtime, then came back to pin Elton Kelsey of Oconto in 4:57 in a second-place wrestleback.
Kauffman dropped the 220-pound championship match to Joey Tauchen of Bonduel 5-4. The Tigers sophomore is now 35-4.
Phil Sersch (120) and Alex Heiden (126) also competed at the sectional for Stratford, each finishing fourth.
Trevor Ackman and Kyle Andreae each took third for Spencer.
Ackman, a junior, moves to 22-5 this season. He defeated Derek Liebergen of Bonduel 10-3 in the 138-pound third-place match, then dropped a second-place wrestleback to Robert Rocole of Wabeno/Laona 5-3.
Andreae will be making his second state tournament appearance in a row. He defeated Mitch Franke of Marathon 5-3 in the 285-pound third-place match to improve to 44-2 on the season.
Lance Neumann also competed for Spencer. He lost his first match at 182 pounds and finishes the season with a 41-3 record.
Wyatt Weiler was the only one of the three Auburndale wrestlers to get through to state. Weiler, a sophomore, took third at 145 pounds. He dropped the championship match to Hayden Krueger of Crandon, getting pinned in 4:18, then was pinned in a second-place wrestleback by Trevor Seewald of Coleman in 5:51. Weiler is 33-11.
Paul Willfahrt (132) and Trevin Oertel (170) both lost their first matches Saturday and were eliminated.
