SPENCER – Spencer center Tara Matter celebrated Senior Night in a big way Monday night.
The Rockets senior scored 26 points, making 11 of 16 shots from the field, to lead Spencer to a 45-38 win over Greenwood in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball finale at Spencer High School.
Matter added five rebounds for Spencer, which ends up 8-10 in the Cloverbelt East and tied with Greenwood for fifth place in the standings. The Rockets are 11-10 overall and wrap up their regular-season schedule with a Cloverbelt East-West crossover game Thursday. The opponent will be named Tuesday.
Spencer led 43-26 after three quarters before Greenwood (9-12 overall) closed the gap to seven in the fourth.
Kassandra Humke led Greenwood with 19 points and six rebounds.
Spencer opens postseason play Feb. 26 with a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal at home against Edgar at 7 p.m.
