MADISON – Three local wrestlers will be moving on after winning his first match Thursday at the 2013 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament in Madison.

Stratford freshman Anthony Gliniecki (35-7) defeated Austin Wolfe of Boyceville 7-6 in a tight Division 3 106-pound first-round match to move into the quarterfinals. He will take on Jon Mudlaff (44-4) of Random Lake on Friday morning.

Gliniecki’s teammate, sophomore Hunter Kauffman, also won his first-round match.

Kauffman (36-4) pinned Justin Peper of Unity in 1:20 to advance to the Division 3 220-pound quarterfinals Friday afternoon. Kauffman will wrestle Cody Moon (28-1) of Laconia in the quarterfinals.

Spencer senior Kyle Andreae, making his second trip to the state meet, reached the 285-pound quarterfinals with a 4-2 win over Alex May of Cedar Grove-Belgium.

Andreae (45-2) will face Alex Lennartson (42-1) of Unity in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon.

Spencer junior Trevor Ackman wasn’t as fortunate, losing his opening match to Ross Withington (39-11) of Westby 10-0.

Ackman could never get anything going as Withington had a takedown in the first period, a three-point nearfall in the second, and two-point and three-point nearfalls in the third to pitch the shutout.

Ackman finishes his season with a second state tournament appearance in his career and a 22-6 record.

Auburndale’s lone state participant, 145-pounder Wyatt Weiler, also lost his first match and was eliminated from the state tournament.

With the match tied 2-2, Weiler, on the bottom, gave up a reversal late in the third period as Zach Newton of Spring Valley/Elmwood grabbed a 4-2 lead. Weiler escaped to make it 4-3, but couldn’t gain a potential game-winning takedown in the final seconds.

Weiler finishes his sophomore season with a 33-12 record.

Stratford’s Dondrick Tackes earned a first-round bye based off of his sectional win last Saturday and will wrestling in the 195-pound quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. Tackes (34-1) will take on Austin Hoeg (31-2) of Greendale Martin Luther.
