UW-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team beats UW-Waukesha to capture WCC state championship

WAUSAU – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team proved unstoppable all season long and it continued all the way through to a state championship.

The Marauders defeated UW-Waukesha 88-76 on Sunday at UW-Marathon County to capture the first Wisconsin Collegiate Conference state title in school history.

Marshfield lost to Waukesha in last year’s state semifinals.

The Marauders won 21 games in a row to end the season and finish with a 24-2 record. Coach Rhonda Keding was named WCC coach of the year.

Kaitlynn Meffered had her fourth triple-double of the season, putting in 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists for the Marauders.

Heather Adrian added 15 points and 12 rebounds, Brynn Salava had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Addi Vold had a team-high 22 points for UW-Marshfield. Corrine Meacham added 12 points and Mckenzie Trunkel chipped in 11.

Waukesha had a 17-12 free-throw advantage, but the Marauders more than made up for the difference making four more shots from the field and shooting 42 percent.
