ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Marshfield baseball team opened its season with a 6-3 loss to Arlington Heights Hersey on Thursday at Hersey High School.
Hersey scored two runs in the first inning and added single tallies in the next four innings to pull away from the Tigers.
Tanner Dennis-Brown took the loss for Marshfield, striking out one and walking three in 2 1/3 innings. Jack Donahue tossed 2 2/3 innings and Dylan Budtke threw a scoreless frame in relief for the Tigers.
“It was the first time we’ve seen soil and grass,” Marshfield coach Mark Zee said. “We made some miscues with some errors (four), but I thought our pitchers threw well and we did some good things out there.”
Donahue and Alex Steines each had RBIs for Marshfield.
The Tigers continue their two-game road trip to Illinois on Friday with a game at Yorkville.
