LA CROSSE – La Crosse Logan used two big innings to sweep to a doubleheader from the Marshfield softball team on Saturday in nonconference action.
Logan scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Tigers 3-2 in the opening game of the twinbill, then used a seven-run fifth inning to beat Marshfield 11-2 in the second game.
Kara Ripp had two hits in the opener for the Tigers. Marshfield led 2-1 after five innings before the Rangers rallied against Tigers pitcher Caitlyn Kozik. Four Tigers errors led to a pair of unearned runs in the loss.
Marshfield took a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning of the second game. Taylor Hasz had a two-RBI single to score Jordan Green and Katie Treankler to put Marshfield on top.
Logan pulled ahead 4-2, then scored seven times in the fifth inning to bust the game open. Miranda Baierl suffered the loss for the Tigers.
“Overall, we played well for the day,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “I felt our pitchers did a very good job for the day, except the one inning. Defensively, we had a few to many mistakes the first game, but did much better the second game. “
Marshfield (0-3) is scheduled to play at home against D.C. Everest on Tuesday in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener, weather pending.
