WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Andie Varsho, a 2010 graduate of Marshfield High School, has been honored for her scholarship, leadership and service to the Purdue University community by being selected to the Mortar Board at Purdue.
Varsho, a junior on the Boilermakers softball team, is one of three Purdue student-athletes selected to the exclusive list, which includes 34 others that have been inducted since 1979.
Mortar Board members are selected for their superior scholarship, dedicated service to the university community, and outstanding and constant leadership. Mortar Board can be found assisting special university leaders, holding a leadership conference, backing intercollegiate athletics, and honoring staff members who are especially supportive of students. The YWCA Women’s Shelter, Community and Family Resource Center , the Liberal Arts Learning Center, Span Plan, and University Day have all benefited from Mortar Board’s financial assistance, according to a story on the Purdue athletic website.
Varsho joins Purdue wrestler Camden Eppert and women’s soccer player Mollie Kuramoto as 2013 inductees.
Varsho has started 140 games in her three years at Purdue, compiling a batting average of .393 and 69 stolen bases. The two-time All-Big Ten pick has committed just one error in the outfield this season.
Varsho was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in the Boilermakers’ 6-5 win over No. 15 Nebraska on Sunday.
Purdue is 21-25 overall and 8-9 in the Big Ten this season. Through 41 games, Varsho was hitting a team-high .444 (59 of 133) with three home runs, a team-best 31 BRIs and 26 runs scored.
Purdue hosts a nonconference game Wednesday against Valparaiso then travels to Northwestern for a three-game series from Friday-Sunday. Purdue wraps up its regular-season schedule at home May 3-5 against Iowa.
