SPENCER – The Spencer softball team opened its 2013 season with a pair of lopsided wins over Colby on Friday at Spencer High School.
The Rockets won 9-2 and 13-1 to start the season 2-0.
Spencer scored eight runs over the fourth through sixth innings in the opener to pull away.
Lindsay Vaughan had two hits and five others had single tallies for the Rockets. Sam Nikolay, Brooke Kettleborough, Heidi Guenther and Colleen Arnold had RBIs.
Guenther earned the win on the mound. Despite walking seven, she only allowed three hits and struck out three.
Kettleborough drove in five runs, Nikolay had three hits and Tynae Phillips struck out seven in five innings for Spencer in the Game 2 win.
Spencer hosts Chequamegon in a nonconference doubleheader on Saturday.
