MARSHFIELD – Darian Molter exploded for four goals and the Marshfield girls soccer team whipped Wausau East 5-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Thursday at windy and wet Griese Park.
Molter scored at the 5:07 and 7:34 marks of the first half to put Marshfield up 2-0 and kept the momentum rolling in the second half, scoring twice in the first 23 minutes.
Alison Gruen tallied the final goal with just under 9 minutes to go.
Gruen assisted on Molter’s first two goals and Walker Guzowski added an assist on a corner kick for the Tigers (4-3-1, 3-2-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference).
“We have had some injuries and the team really stepped it up overall,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “I was pleased with the challenge on loose balls and stepping to the ball on 50-50 balls. It has not been a strength for us so far, but tonight we really challenged well.”
Marshfield is off until Monday when it plays at Wausau East before hosting Merrill on Tuesday.
“We will continue to take each game one at a time and continue to look for the improvement as we progress in the season,” Lindner said. “Our leaders are leading so well with play and direction on the field that the team is gelling much better moving forward. I am excited to see how it will all come out.”
