Marshfield boys track first, girls second at Tomah Justinger Memorial Invitational

TOMAH – The Marshfield boys track and field team took first place in seven events and went on to take the team title at the 2013 Justinger Memorial Invitational on Tuesday at Tomah High School.

Keiron Howlett continued his impressive season by taking first in three events and second in another. Howlett won the 110-meter hurdles (15.12 seconds), high jump (6-0) and triple jump (45-5), and was second in the 300 hurdles (40.60) for the Tigers.

Also placing first for the Marshfield boys were Derek Coffren in the 400 (53.56), Brad Krueger in the pole vault (13-0), Matt Oestreich in the long jump (20-7.25) and the 3,200 relay team of Mack Scheppler, Thomas Kruger, Max Tibbett and Nolan Redetzke (8:33.13).

Marshfield also had eight other second-place finishes, including the 400, 800 and 1,600 relays, to finish with 199 points, 41 ahead of second-place Tomah.

The Marshfield girls won five events and place second in seven others to finish second in the team standings with 141 points, just eight behind champion Nekoosa.

Martha Kupfer won the 200 (26.73) and 300 hurdles (48.47) for the Tigers.

Also winning for Marshfield was the 400 relay team of Miranda Snortheim, Nikki Youngblood, Sara Fuller and Ashleigh Sternitzky (53.50), Maria Brix in the pole vault (9-0) and Melissa May in the shot put (39-4).

Both Marshfield teams will compete at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational on Friday before competing at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet on Tuesday at Wausau East.
