Columbus Catholic baseball whips Granton for first win of season

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic fell behind early but rallied with 10 runs from the second through fourth innings and blew out Granton 12-3 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Friday at Jack Hackman Field.

The win is the Dons’ first of the season and improves their record to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference, while Granton falls to 0-4 overall and in the Cloverbelt East.

Granton scored two runs in the top of the first before Columbus scored one in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth to take a 10-3 lead. The Dons added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Alex Larson, Charlie Mayeux, John Edwards and Brett Loveland all had two hits apiece for the Dons.

Larson also picked up the win on the mound, striking out six and walking seven. Jeremy Binder had six strikeouts in relief for the Dons.

Columbus plays at Augusta on Tuesday.
