Marshfield boys golf second at Merrill Invitational

MERRILL – Merrill edged Marshfield by one stroke to win the 12-team Merrill Boys Golf Invitational on Saturday at Merrill Golf Course.

Merrill finished with a 339, one shot better than Marshfield’s 340.

Marshfield’s Craig Serchen and Evan Schneider tied for fourth with 83s. Kyle Hoffman added an 84 and Josh Berres shot a 90 for the Tigers.

Antigo’s Nick Bolen won meet medalist honors with a 79.

The Marshfield JV team finished fifth with a 369.

Brandon Nikolai and Jordan Schlinsog led the Tigers with 88s. Zack Shortess added a 93 and Cole Irish had a 110 to round out Marshfield’s scoring.

In a two-man best-ball competition, Serchen and Hoffman tied Merrill’s Michael Pagel and Max Beranczyk with a score of 75. Pagel and Beranczyk won the title in a scorecard playoff.

Marshfield will compete in the fifth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday at Stevens Point Country Club.
