MARSHFIELD – Lindsay Krueger smacked a two-out grand slam in the top of the fourth inning and those four runs proved to be the difference as Merrill defeated Marshfield 6-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
Marshfield led 3-2 after three innings before Krueger crushed a pitch over the left field fence. The grand slam came after a two-out error by Marshfield that allowed the inning to continue.
Neither team scored over the final 3½ innings.
“We were doing a good job of getting people on base and moving them around up until that point (of the home run) and then after that we just kind of shut down hitting-wise,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said.
Jessi Lyon had two of Marshfield’s six hits in the loss.
The Tigers (1-14, 1-6 Wisconsin Valley Conference) play a doubleheader at D.C. Everest on Tuesday.
