SPENCER – The Spencer softball team clinched at least a tie for the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship with a doubleheader sweep of Augusta.
The Rockets won 12-2 and 17-3 to finish the Cloverbelt East season with a 15-1 record (16-4 overall).
Neillsville, which entered Tuesday’s play with one loss as well in the conference, was swept by Gilman 14-12 and 16-13 to secure the championship for the Rockets.
Sam Nikolay and Macie Weber each had three hits and four players, including Nikolay, had two RBIs each for the Rockets in the Game 1 win.
Tynae Phillips had 11 strikeouts and gave up five hits to earn the win for Spencer.
The Rockets took advantage of 10 walks in the second game.
Paige Johnson had a double, a triple and five RBIs, and Brooke Kettleborough and Weber each scored three times in the victory.
Phillips, Weber and Marisa Johnson combined on the five-hitter for Spencer.
The Rockets will play a nonconference game Friday at home against Abbotsford and will host a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal on May 21 against either Loyal or Stratford.
