MARSHFIELD – Darian Molter scored four times to help the Marshfield girls soccer team snap a two-game losing streak as it defeated Wisconsin Rapids 6-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game at Griese Park.
Wisconsin Rapids’ Ali Graper scored just 1:18 into the game before the Tigers erupted for four straight goals, three before halftime.
Molter scored at the 18:49 mark, Alison Gruen followed with goals 3 and 8 minutes later, and Molter added another goal with 9:05 remaining in the game to give Marhsfield a 4-1 lead.
After Courtney Winters broke the string for the Raiders, Molter scored a pair of goals in a 22-second span to finish off the victory.
Molter now has 22 goals this season, while Gruen upped her total to 11.
“These two ladies are just a nice compliment to each other up front and they have put another nice season under their belts,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We talked before the game and we were saying it is time our top players to shine vs. quality teams. Tonight, they did.”
Rae Ann Hovendick had seven saves in goal for the Tigers (9-6-1, 6-4-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference).
“All the girls got nice minutes tonight and there were key contributions and positive plays in many situations,” Lindner said. “We look for constant improvement and positive things in the outcomes of 1-on-1 battles, and we liked what we saw tonight.”
Marshfield closes out its regular-season schedule with a game at Wausau West on Thursday. The winner finishes third in the conference standings.
