Marshfield baseball splits twinbill at Wausau West

WAUSAU – The Marshfield baseball team responded from a loss in Game 1 to split a doubleheader with Wausau West on Tuesday.

West won the opener 6-4 before the Tigers came back to win Game 2 8-3.

Marshfield moves to 11-9 overall and 5-6 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while West is now 13-8 and finishes the WVC season with a 9-3 record.

Jeren Hiller had two RBIs and Jack Donahue was 2-for-3 in the first game for Marshfield.

Tanner Brown earned the victory in Game 2 for the Tigers, throwing four innings of no-hit ball in relief of Donahue. Brown struck out four.

Caleb Alexander smacked a grand slam home run in the Tigers’ five-run fifth inning. Daulton Varsho was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Aaron Schwecke had two hits for Marshfield.

Marshfield finishes its regular-season schedule with a game at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
