STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys tennis team’s season came to an end with a fifth-place finish at the WIAA Division 1 sectional Wednesday at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Marshfield senior Jacob Twardowski dropped his first match at No. 1 singles to finish the season with a 16-8 record.
Jacob Limmex was second at No. 4 singles to end up with a 16-4 record for the season. Limmex lost to Imran Mian of Ashwaubenon in the championship match.
The Tigers’ No. 2 doubles team of Tanner Hayes and Zach Ott also competed, taking second place. Hayes and Ott, both seniors, lost in the championship match to Joe Novak and Brian Bartletti of Antigo to end their season with a 21-4 record.
The top four finishers at No. 1 singles and doubles, and the winners at No. 2 singles and doubles move on to the 2013 WIAA State Individual Boys Tennis Tournament in Madison on May 30-June 1.
Wausau East took the sectional title and qualified for the 2013 WIAA State Team Boys Tennis Tournament in Madison on June 7-8.
