Marshfield has rough first day at 2013 WIAA State Track and Field Championships

LA CROSSE – Friday was an overall tough day for the Marshfield track team at the 2013 WIAA State Track and Field Championships.

Junior Keiron Howlett was injured running the final leg of the 400 relay and did not compete in the 200-meter preliminaries or the long jump. He is scheduled to participate in the triple jump on Saturday.

None of the other Marshfield competitors in the Division 1 field earned a medal or qualified for the finals in their respective events.

Matt Oestreich did not achieve a height in the high jump and placed 17th in the long jump (20-7 3/4). He is scheduled to compete in the triple jump on Saturday.

Nolan Redetzke finished 24th in the 3,200 meters, finishing with a time of 9:53.71. Carl Hirsch of Brookfield Central won the event in 9:09.72.

Riley Gebelein, Olin Boson, Ryan Trierweiler and Howlett finished the 400 relay in a time of 43.47 seconds to place 14th in the preliminaries. The top 10 finishers qualified for Saturday’s finals in the event.

Two of the three Marshfield girls that qualified for state competed on Friday. Martha Kupfer was 20th in the 200 preliminaries with a time of 27.38 seconds, and Yasmeena Ougayour took 12th in the discus, with a throw of 109-8.

Melissa May will throw in the shot put on Saturday for the Tigers.
