WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jordan Zimmermann, an Auburndale High School graduate and former player for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Marshfield Chaparrals baseball teams, was named to the National League All-Star team on Saturday.
Zimmermann, who is in his fourth season with the Washington Nationals, will be making his first All-Star Game appearance.
Zimmermann is 12-3 with a 2.57 ERA this season. He has 89 strikeouts in 126 innings, giving up just 102 hits and 18 walks. He has three complete games and a shutout for the Nationals.
On Saturday, Zimmermann had a no-decision after allowing three runs, five hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and left the game trailing San Diego 4-3. Washington scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game 5-4.
Zimmermann is next scheduled to pitch Thursday at Philadelphia and could be in line to start the All-Star Game on July 16 at Citi Field in New York. The game will be broadcast on FOX-TV and locally on WOSQ-FM 92.3 radio at 7 p.m.
