MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team finished second at its home tournament over the weekend.
Marshfield defeated Chippewa Falls 8-5 in the opening game Saturday behind five scoreless innings from starting pitcher Scott Berg.
Matt Kuhlka had two hits and two RBIs, Jake Brueggen added two hits and Nate Barofka earned the save for the Blue Demons.
Marshfield then defeated the La Crosse 16-and-under team 4-0 as Barofka pitching four innings to earn the win and Luke Zuiker threw the final three innings to save it. Both struck out three.
Sam Klein, Berg and Kuhlka each had two hits in the win.
Marshfield defeated the La Crosse 17-and-under team in the semifinals on Sunday, 4-3. Klein tossed a complete game, striking out three to grab the victory. Jeremy Brost had three hits, including a double, and Kuhlka, Berg and Brueggen each had two hits for the Blue Demons.
South Wood County then defeated Marshfield 13-0 in the championship game to win the tournament.
Marshfield (13-10-1) plays a doubleheader at Stevens Point on Tuesday.
