FOND DU LAC – Chris Pahl scored in a penalty-kick shootout and Matt Brown made his third straight save in the second extra period to lift the Marshfield boys soccer team to a victory over Fond du Lac in the opener of the Fond du Lac Challenge on Friday night.

The game was tied 1-1 at the end of 70-minute regulation and each team scored three times during a penalty-kick shootout.

The game went to a second, sudden-death PK shootout. Neither team scored the first two rounds before Pahl connected for the Tigers. Brown then saved Fond du Lac’s attempt to give Marshfield the win, its fifth in a row.

Austin Gilbert tallied Marshfield’s first goal at the 18:31 mark and Fond du Lac’s Casey McArdle converted a penalty kick with 7:41 left in regulation to tie the game.

Brown had to make just one save in goal during regulation for the Tigers.

Marshfield (6-2) will play in the semifinals of the tournament Saturday morning, with either a third-place game or championship game to follow later in the day.
