Columbus Catholic boys soccer edges Wausau Newman 1-0

WAUSAU – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys soccer team continued its hot start to the 2013 season with a 1-0 win over Wausau Newman Catholic on Monday.

Jared Fleischmann scored on a header off a direct kick from Christian Payant for the game’s only goal.

With the win, Columbus improves to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-State Soccer Conference. Newman drops to 2-3 and 1-3 in the conference.

Evan Hansen had four saves in the victory for the Dons.

Columbus hosts Stevens Point Pacelli in a battle of undefeated teams in the Mid-State Conference on Thursday at Griese Park. Pacelli is 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The game starts at 5 p.m.
