Spencer volleyball beats Neillsville in Cloverbelt East opener

SPENCER – Marisa Johnson had 13 kills and 10 digs to pace a balanced Spencer attack as the Rockets rolled to a 3-0 win over Neillsville in their Cloverbelt Conference East Division volleyball opener Thursday at Spencer High School.

Spencer won the match 25-15, 25-19, 25-21.

Tynae Phillips added eight kills and 11 digs, Macie Weber had seven kills, three aces and three blocks, and setter Brooke Kettleborough had a team-high 30 assists for the Rockets. Lindsey Vaughn had a team-high 15 digs defensively for Spencer

“The girls did a nice job playing together…other than a couple stretches when our defense struggled we were solid,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “Marisa Johnson really led the attack offensively tonight.”

Spencer plays at the Auburndale Invitational on Saturday and has Cloverbelt East matches at Colby next Tuesday and at Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Sept. 19.
