The Marshfield boys soccer team improved to 9-2-2 this season with two road wins on Saturday.

The Tigers defeated Onalaska 2-1 and Holmen 4-1, playing at each school on the road trip.

Alex Sainterme netted the game-winner for Marshfield with 6:30 remaining against Onalaska.

Matt McCann scored 7:25 into the game and the score remained 1-0 until Onalaska (6-2-1) tied it on a goal by Michael Klos at the 62:45 mark.

Matt Brown made four saves in goal for the Tigers.

“Onalaska played a physical game and it is similar to what some teams in our conference play,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “It hopefully prepared us a little better for our game with Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday.”

The game against Holmen was scoreless through the first half, then Marshfield unloaded.

The Tigers scored four goals in 28 minutes, including two by Jake Limmex. Austin Gilbert and Brown added goals on penalty kicks for Marshfield.

“We were able to make some changes and only started two of our regular starters,” Todryk said. “In the first half, we were trying to work out the bugs. It was nice to rest some of my starters and to see what some of the non-starters were able to do in certain situations.”

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids in a battle of Wisconsin Valley Conference co-leaders at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Griese Park.
