Marshfield boys cross country team third, girls fourth at D.C. Everest Evergreen Invitational

RIB MOUNTAIN – The Marshfield boys finished third and the girls took fourth at the D.C. Everest Evergreen Invitational on Tuesday at Nine-Mile Forest.

Stevens Point grabbed the top five spots to win the boys event, led by winner Evan Hatton, who finished in 16:31.1.

D.C. Everest was second, followed by Marshfield. Max Tibbett led the Tigers with an 11th-place finish in 17:34.2. The next four Tigers finished between 26th and 32nd.

Rebecca Voss topped the Marshfield girls by taking fifth in 20:42.2. Mckayla Scheuer was 15th and Madie Koehn was 19th to held Marshfield finish with 89 points, just three behind third-place Clintonville.

Stevens Point had the top four finishers to win the team title. Hannah Beilke won in 19:45.6, edging teammate Mya Zajakowski by 8 seconds.

“The boys really surprised me with their third-place finish,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “It was great to have Talon (Labrec) back on varsity and the other boys responded well. Our group of runners really helped each other out today.

“We had three (girls) medalists today in Rebecca, McKayla and Madie. We had some solid groupings today, but we still need to keep improving as the season progresses.”

The Columbus Catholic boys took fifth, with four of its top five runners finishing between 25th and 38th. Jeremy Binder led the Dons, taking 25th in 18:54.9.

The Dons had just one girl run in the event. Rachel Roehl finished 44th in 24:23.6.

Marshfield and Columbus Catholic will both be competing at the Smiley Invitational on Saturday in Wausau.
