Stratford’s Johnelle Miner wins girls cross country title at Stratford ‘Bear’ Invitational

STRATFORD – Stratford sophomore Johnelle Miner edged Auburndale’s Abby Bauer by less than 5 seconds to win the girls race at the Stratford ‘Bear’ Invitational on Tuesday.

Miner won the girls race in 16:43.7, 4.7 seconds ahead Bauer.

Miner’s finish helped the Stratford girls to a second-place team finish behind Marathon. Marathon had the sixth- through ninth-place finishers to win the meet.

Stratford’s Nadia King also had a top finish, taking fifth in 17:23.1. Kelsey Boeger (17th) and Mariah Guyer (19th) also had top-20 finishes for the Tigers.

Spencer was sixth and Auburndale seventh in the team standings.

Spencer also had a top 10 finish, with Paige Lawrence taking 10th in 18:16.4.

Marathon ran away with the boys title with sixth finishers in the top nine.

Andrew Studinski of Marathon won the boys race in 15:59.3, 31 seconds ahead of teammate Steven Studinski.

Phil Sersch topped Stratford, which finished third in the team standings, by taking seventh in 17:10.5. Mark Wenzel ended up 13th for the Tigers.

Auburndale was seventh and Spencer eighth in the boys team standings.

Donovan Fox topped the Spencer boys, finishing 11th in 17:43.1. Bobby Pilz was 20th.

Jake Hunsberger led Auburndale by finishing 16th in 18:22.6. Tom Sabel took 21st.

Stratford, Auburndale and Spencer will compete in the Smiley Invitational on Saturday in Wausau.
