WESTON – The Marshfield volleyball team suffered its first losses of the season Saturday at the first Wisconsin Valley Conference meet of the season at D.C. Everest High School.
Marshfield defeated D.C. Everest 3-1 (25-9, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21) before losing to Merrill 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 16-25, 25-17, 15-13) and Stevens Point 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 26-28, 25-21) to drop to 3-2 overall in WVC play.
Wausau East was the only unbeaten team at the first of the two conference tournaments this season, and improve to 5-0 overall in the Valley.
Courtney Bauer had 42 kills, Miranda Forrest had 24 kills and 42 digs, and Darian Molter had a team-high 66 digs and eight service aces for Marshfield. Anna Ripp added 43 assists, Sara Dasler had 42 assists and Ellie Fehrenbach had 29 kills for Marshfield.
“We would have like to have a better record at the end of the day, but we are really happy with how our team came together today,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We have been struggling with our chemistry because we have not had a consistent starting lineup, but today we were starting to see what we are really able to do when we have some consistency on the court.”
Marshfield has a nonconference game at Antigo on Tuesday and returns to Valley action with a home match against Wausau East on Thursday.
