MARSHFIELD – Chris Pahl scored the game’s only goal 1:58 into the second half as the Marshfield boys soccer team completed a season sweep of Wausau East, beating the Lumberjacks 1-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Tuesday at Griese Park.

Marshfield staved off three solid scoring chances by East in the first half to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

Pahl headed in a shot off a deflection by Thomas Krueger shortly after the start of the second half and Marshfield held East scoreless the rest of the way.

Matt Brown had five saves in goal for Marshfield.

Marshfield stays in first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a 6-2 record (11-3-2 overall).

“We had to make some adjustments in the defense with Zach Leggon out with an injury,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “East kept the pressure on us. They had three opportunities in the first half and missed a wide open goal in there, so we were lucky to get out of the first half 0-0. We tweaked the lineup a little bit in the second half and put more pressure on them.”

Marshfield plays at Merrill on Thursday.
