EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield No. 2 doubles team of Olivia Haessly and Emily Seidel went 1-1 and finished third at the WIAA Division 1 girls tennis sectional Thursday at Eau Claire Memorial High School, ending their season.
Haessly, a sophomore, and Seidel, a senior, lost its first match to eventual sectional champion Lauren Delmastro and Mackenzie Cunningham of Memorial 6-2, 6-2, before defeating Hudson’s Kate Johnson and Kali Denis 6-2, 7-5, to capture third place.
Haessly and Seidel trailed 5-2 in the second set against Hudson before winning five straight games to take the match and end their season with a 19-9 record.
Memorial won five of the seven flights and rolled to the sectional team title with 51 points, 15 ahead of Stevens Point. Memorial will face Neenah in a Division 1 quarterfinal on Oct. 25 at the WIAA State Girls Tennis Team Tournament in Madison.
