STEVENS POINT – Marshfield senior Rebecca Voss continued her strong push at the end of the season, winning the WIAA Division 1 cross country sectional at Standing Rock Park on Saturday.
Voss won the girls race in 14:50.7, 6.3 seconds ahead of Mya Zajakowski of Stevens Point. Zajakowski beat Voss by less than 2 seconds at last week’s Wisconsin Valley Meet.
Voss earned one of the five individual spots at next Saturday’s 2013 WIAA State Cross Country Meet at the Ridges in Wisconsin Rapids.
“Rebecca ran another great race today,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “She just took over the race with about one mile left to go. She is running so well this month. It’s so great to see all her hard work pay off.
“The other girls had good efforts today…five of our seven girls had their best times of the year.”
Mckayla Scheuer was 27th (16:53) and Ashley Holubets took 30th (16:56) for Marshfield’s next two best finishes. The Tigers finished sixth among the 12 teams.
Marshfield senior Max Tibbett missed a boys state qualifying berth by two spots, finishing 14th in 17:12.3. The final individual spot was taken by Antigo’s Colin Koss (12th in 17:04).
Devon Klement finished 19th for the Tigers in 17:24. Marshfield took 10th as a team.
“Max missed out by two places today, but he had one his best races all season,” Akin said. “He had a very good season for us. Devin continued his October run with another great race today. Five of the boys had their best time of the season.”
