Third-quarter run lifts Marathon past Stratford boys basketball

STRATFORD – A 10-3 run in the third quarter sparked Marathon to a 55-45 win over Stratford in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Thursday night at Stratford High School.

Stratford trailed by just one, 24-23 at halftime, before the Raiders outscored them 10-3 in the third quarter to forge ahead by eight. Stratford couldn’t close the gap in the fourth.

Xavier Lechleitner had 14 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals for Marathon (2-1, 2-0 Marawood South).

Jake Reif scored nearly half of Stratford’s points, finishing with 21 on 9 of 15 shooting. Eli Temanson added nine points for the Tigers (0-3, 0-1 Marawood South).

Stratford plays a nonconference game at Amherst on Friday.
