WAUSAU – The Marshfield wrestling team started its 2013-14 season with a tall task – a dual meet at defending WIAA Division 1 state champion Wausau West.
The Tigers won six matches but came up short overall, losing the Wisconsin Valley Conference match 46-24 on Thursday night at Wausau West High School.
Luke Mahoney won 7-2, Tristan Wilson won 6-2 and Tyler Manthe had a pin with just one second left in his match for the Tigers.
Returning state tournament qualifier Mitch Hertel won 5-2 in his season debut, freshman Anthony Kanable won 6-4 and Devon Clement had a pin in the first period to round out the scoring for Marshfield.

Marshfield will compete at the Campbellsport Invitational on Saturday.
