Dominant first half propels Auburndale girls basketball past Stratford

STRATFORD – A dominating first half was all the Auburndale girls basketball team needed to continue its solid start to its Marawood Conference South Division schedule.

The Apaches jumped out to a 28-8 lead by halftime and defeated Stratford 48-33 in a Marawood South matchup Thursday night at Stratford High School.

Auburndale is now 3-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference, moving into a three-way tie along with Wausau Newman Catholic and Marathon for second place in the Marawood South. Stratford is now 3-4 and 1-3 in the conference.

Shannon Yahnke was 7 of 10 from the field and scored a team-high 14 points for Auburndale. Taylor Gotz added nine points and six rebounds.

Brooke Schultze had 14 points and nine rebounds for Stratford.

Auburndale plays at first-place Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Stratford has a nonconference game at home against Elcho on Monday.
