Stratford wrestlers come up short at Merrill

MERRILL – The Stratford wrestling team fought hard but came up just short of upsetting the No. 2-ranked Division 1 team in the state.

The Tigers, ranked third in Division 3 by Wisconsin Wrestling Online (wiwrestling.com), fell 30-22 in a nonconference dual match Thursday at Merrill High School.

Stratford won six of the 14 matches, including a pin by Sam Wenzel at 106 pounds.

Other winners for the Tigers were Anthony Gliniecki at 113, David Marquardt at 120, Phil Sersch at 126, Kyle Giebel at 160 and Dondrick Tackes at 195. Gliniecki’s win was a major decision.

Tyler Schmidt (220) and Scott Arneson (132) won by pin for Merrill.

Stratford will wrestle at the D.C. Everest Invitational on Saturday.
