Stratford girls basketball pulls away in third quarter to beat Elcho

STRATFORD – Stratford held Elcho to just seven made baskets from the field and pulled away in the second half to beat the Hornets 48-33 in a nonconference girls basketball game Monday night at Stratford High School.

The Tigers (4-5) led 25-21 at halftime before ripping off a 13-2 run in the third quarter to open up a double-digit lead.

Brooke Schultze had 15 points, nine coming in the third-quarter surge, to lift the Tigers.

Stratford made 19 of 35 free throw attempts, compared to 18 of 22 from Elcho, but held the Hornets to just two made baskets from the field in the second half.

MaKayla Raith had 16 points for Elcho. She made 10 of 11 shots from the free-throw line.

Stratford will play a Marawood Conference South Division game at Northland Lutheran on Tuesday.
