Second-quarter surge lifts Marshfield girls basketball past Rhinelander

RHINELANDER – Marshfield outscored Rhinelander 16-5 in the second quarter to pull ahead and went on to a 45-33 victory over the Hodags in a nonconference girls basketball game Thursday night at Rhinelander High School.

The game was a make-up from a game that was postponed due to inclement weather on Tuesday.

Caitlin Michaelis scored 14 points, had five assists and four steals in the victory for Marshfield (5-6).

Ellie Fehrenbach added 10 points and five rebounds, and McKayla Scheuer hit three 3-pointers and finished with nine points for the Tigers.

Kylie Hunter had 15 points and eight rebounds for Rhinelander (4-8).

The Tigers host Wisconsin Rapids as part of a girls-boys doubleheader on Friday. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at 7:45 p.m. The Marshfield girls game on Tuesday and both games on Friday will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
