Marshfield drops doubleheader at DisneyWorld

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Marshfield softball team continued its spring break trip to DisneyWorld on Wednesday and lost a pair of tight games to Kettering Fairmont (Ohio) at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex 8-5 and 14-13.

The Tigers lost leads late in both games to fall to 1-2 on the four-game trip. Marshfield wraps up its trip to Disney with a game Friday against West Geauga (Ohio).

Senior center fielder Andie Varsho had eight hits and seven RBIs in the doubleheader to continue her hot start to the season.

Varsho had three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs in the opener.

Kelsey Kuehnhold took the loss, allowing four runs in two innings.

In the second game, the Tigers came back from a 7-2 deficit to tie the game and eventually take the lead, but allowed five runs over the final three innings.

Varsho was 5-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs in game two.

Scout Meyer took the loss in relief of Kristin Kniech, who gave up nine runs, but only two earned, over the first four innings.

Sara Sturmoski and Morgan Chaffin each had a pair of hits in the second game for Marshfield.

“We started out slow defensively, but we played a lot better after that and just lost a good, close game,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said.
