Athens dominates second half, defeats Stratford girls basketball

ATHENS – Athens used an 18-7 run in the third quarter to pull ahead and go on to a 63-45 win over Stratford in a nonconference girls basketball game Friday night at Athens High School.

Stratford led 27-26 at halftime thanks to nine points from Brooke Schultze and eight from Emily Hauke in the first half.

The Tigers went cold in the third and Athens pulled ahead to a 44-34 lead. The Bluejays then topped Stratford 19-11 in the fourth to cruise to the victory.

Schultze finished with 21 points for Stratford, which falls to 4-6. Athens is now 9-2.

Kyncaide Diedrich had 25 points for the Bluejays, with eight coming in the fourth quarter.

Stratford plays at Tomah in a nonconference game Monday.
