AUBURNDALE – Kayleigh Kundinger, Kelli Issacson, Kayla Gotz and Katie Willfahrt each had three hits to lift the Auburndale softball team to a season-opening 14-3 win over Colby in a nonconference game Thursday at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale posted 18 hits and scored in each of the four innings it batted during the game shortened by the 10-run rule.
Kim Masephol threw four innings and allowed two runs, one earned, and eight hits, while striking out four for the Apaches. Gotz threw the final inning, allowing one run.
Kundinger scored three runs and Gotz added a triple and two RBIs for Auburndale. Heather Nigh also was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Auburndale.
“Defensively, we played pretty solid with only one error,” Auburndale coach Dawn Urban said. “Offensively, we attacked the ball. I’m very pleased with the game overall. It’s a great start to the season.”
The Apaches next game is at home Tuesday against Loyal.
