WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Auburndale boys basketball team got off to a strong start and maintained a big lead throughout in a 61-41 win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Thursday night at Assumption High School.
The Apaches outscored Assumption 23-9 in the first quarter and pushed the lead to 17 by halftime.
Matthew Nikolay had a season-high 21 points and Zach Staats added 15 to lead the way for Auburndale (14-1, 9-0 Marawood Conference South Division).
Joshua Paltz had 18 points for Assumption (6-9, 4-5 Marawood South).
Auburndale hosts Marathon in a battle of the top two teams in the Marawood South on Friday night. Auburndale leads Marathon by one game in the standings.
