Four score in double figures as Auburndale boys basketball outlasts Wausau Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – Matthew Nikolay scored 13 points to lead four Auburndale players in double figures and the Apaches went on to beat Wausau Newman Catholic 56-44 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday night at Newman Catholic High School.

Blake Anderson and Josh VanShoick each added 11 points and Zach Staats chipped in 10 for Auburndale, which is now 16-1 overall and 11-0 in the Marawood South. Newman falls to 13-4 and 7-3 in the conference.

Auburndale leads Marathon by two games in the Marawood South standings with three conference games remaining.

Nate Prososki had 14 points to lead the Cardinals.

Auburndale hosts Pittsville on Friday with a chance to clinch at least a tie for its fourth straight Marawood South championship.
