Marshfield fourth at 2014 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Swim Meet

STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point won seven events and claimed its third-straight championship at the 2014 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Swim Meet on Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Stevens Point racked up 392 points, outlasting second-place Wisconsin Rapids (261) and Wausau East (244).

Marshfield finished fourth out of five teams with 212 points.

Marshfield’s top finish came from the 200 medley relay team, which took second. Brian Engel, Zach Korth, Denver Anderson and Matt Brown swam the event in 1:52.89, finishing 9 seconds behind Stevens Point.

Anderson was third in the 50 freestyle (23.88) and in the 100 backstroke (1:03.57).

Anderson, Engel, Caleb Hansen and Brown also earned a third for the Tigers in the 400 freestyle relay (3:46.22).

Other top-five finishes for Marshfield came from Engel, Brown and Korth.

Engel was fourth in the 100 freestyle (55.03) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.72), Brown was fifth in the 100 free (55.43) and Korth took fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.11).

Wausau East’s Ben Beckel (500 freestyle, 200 freestyle) and Garrett Richetto (200 IM, 100 freestyle), and Stevens Point’s Ben Harris (100 butterfly, 50 freestyle) each won two individual events.

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 sectional meet at Hudson on Feb. 15.
