AUBURNDALE – Shannon Yahnke scored 15 points and the Auburndale girls basketball team held off a fourth-quarter surge by Stratford to beat the Tigers 52-51 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The Apaches led 30-17 at halftime before Stratford came back, cutting the lead to five after three quarters and one at the end, but came up just short.
Auburndale is now 11-7 overall and 8-3 in the Marawood South after winning its fifth-straight game. Stratford drops to 7-11 and 3-8 in the conference.
Taylor Gotz added 11 points for Auburndale.
The Apaches made 14 of 21 free throws, while Stratford was just 16 of 29.
Emily Hauke had 14 points and five rebounds, and Savannah Schillinger chipped in with 11 points for the Tigers.
Auburndale hosts Northland Lutheran and Stratford is at home against Pittsville on Tuesday.
